Man shot dead, suspect arrested for tampering with corpse
A Lubbock man faces a charge of tampering with a corpse after a man was shot dead in central Lubbock.
Police were called Friday evening to a civil disturbance at a home on 25th Street near Avenue N. Investigators report Calvin Brown, Jr. told them he shot and killed Ronald Sepeda, 67, in self defense. According to police, Brown said he had gotten into a fight with Sepeda.
Responding officers found Sepeda in the home's underground cellar. The Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit determined Brown had moved Sepeda's body from inside the home to the cellar, in an effort to conceal the body. Brown confessed to using cleaning chemicals to conceal the death before calling 911.
Calvin Joe Brown, Jr., 31, was arrested on a charge of tampering with a corpse, a second-degree felony. Brown is held at the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
