A Lubbock family will soon have a new home thanks to Habitat for Humanity and some Texas Tech students.

The organization "blessed the build" on a new home for Charlotte Ellis and her family. The ceremony allows family and friends to celebrate a new beginning.

"Most of our home owners have never owned their own home, they're first-time home buyers," said Joe Puckett with Habitat for Humanity. "Most of them are low- to moderate-income, that's part of our requirement at Habitat. And so they're working, hard working people. They will move into this house once it's completed, and then they will pay for this house."

Following this "Blessing of the Build", the annual Red Raider Welcome Week starts Monday. It's when Tech students help frame a home through Habitat for Humanity.
