LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Josh Junghas been tabbed as a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, the organization announced on Wednesday.
 
The semifinalist list features 25 of the nation's top amateur players from the college ranks. From Wednesday, May 15, through Sunday, May 26, the voting body will select three semifinalists from the ballot to be named as Golden Spikes Award finalists and fan voting will simultaneously be open on GoldenSpikesAward.com.
 
It marks back-to-back seasons Jung has been named a semifinalist for the award and three straight seasons a Red Raider has made the list. Then-sophomore left-hander Steven Gingerywas selected as one of the top 25 for the honor in 2017. Jung is one of three semifinalists for the 2019 award that were also a semifinalist last season.
 
After earning the distinction as a sophomore last season, Jung is one of eight Red Raiders all-time to be among nominees for the award following a sensational junior campaign.  He enters the final week of the season among the Big 12 leaders in hits (5th), runs scored (2nd), home runs (5th), doubles (T-1st), RBI (2nd), total bases (2nd), walks (1st), on base percentage (3rd) and slugging percentage (4th).
 
His brilliance has been on display over the last 15 games, hitting .442 with eight doubles, five home runs, 19 RBI, 21 runs scored and 18 walks. A move from third base to shortstop has allowed Tech to shore up its middle infield, resulting in 11 wins in its last 12 games.
 
Jung has garnered several honors throughout his junior season, including Big 12 Player of the Week, Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Player of the Week, Frisco Classic All-Tournament Team and is a member of the Bragan Award Watch List.
 
The 42nd Golden Spikes Award winner will be announced on June 14 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. USA Baseball has partnered with Rod Dedeaux Foundation to host the Golden Spikes Award since 2013. The Foundation was formed to honor legendary University of Southern California and USA Baseball Olympic team coach, Rod Dedeaux, and supports youth baseball and softball programs in underserved communities throughout Southern California.
