LUBBOCK, Texas -

WINDY DAY: Strong gusts have been moving across the region, with the strongest wind thus far coming mid-afternoon. Here are some of the peak gusts from the Texas Tech Mesonet, through 4 p.m.:

Denver City 57mph
Tatum 53mph
Morton 53mph
Plains 52mph
Wolfforth 52mph
Sundown 52mph
Seagraves 51mph
Levelland 51mph
Anton 51mph

Muleshoe 50mph
Amherst 50mph
Reese Center 50mph
Slaton 50mph
Olton 50mph

There have also been a few light showers and even thunderstorms generally to the north of Lubbock. The air is so dry these aren't producing much in terms of rain getting to the ground. They are helping kick up the wind some more. Here is the current wind speed:

South Plains wind speed

TONIGHT: It's still going to be windy through the evening, finally dropping off a bit late tonight. Clear, low near 25.

TOMORROW: Sunny, without the wind. High near 60, wind NW/SW 5-15mph.

THE WIND RETURNS: Wednesday will reach the upper 60s with the SW wind 12-25mph. Thursday will be much warmer and windy, probably with sustained wind up around 35mph.

It'll still be breezy, at least 20mph sustained, again Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The opening of the Tech Baseball season usually means it'll turn cold again. At this point that stronger front is expected late Saturday, dropping Sunday back into the 40s. It may stay in the 30s Monday, potentially with a little snow.

7-day forecast

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast here early tomorrow.
