LUBBOCK, Texas -

A deadly fire in north Lubbock Monday was intentionally set, according to the Lubbock Fire Marshal's and State Fire Marshal's offices. Homeowner, Charles Ruth, 62, is the lone suspect, according to Lubbock Fire Rescue.

Neighbors told us Monday they were distraught walking up to the home, engulfed in flames, on East Stanford, just east of Interstate 27 and north of Loop 289.

Multiple neighbors said they heard an explosion and saw flames. Jerry Manley knew the victim for several years. He said everyone wanted to help rescue him, but the fire was just too dangerous.

"By that time, the house is gone," Manley said Monday. "It's too late. Nobody could help him, not even the fireman."

The Medical Examiner's Office will release cause of death as soon as its available.
