LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock police responded to reports of an accident with injuries this morning, just before 1:40 a.m., at 34th and University. Upon arrival, officers located a victim, who was not only injured during the accident, but through the initial course of the investigation, it was discovered that he was in a physical altercation and was stabbed at El Patron (2200 block of east 48th).

Police reported it appeared the victim was in the process of being transported to a hospital by private vehicle when the collision occurred. At that time, it appeared the vehicle which was transporting the victim was traveling westbound on 34th street, when it collided with a vehicle heading north on University, causing the vehicle traveling north to overturn on its side, before catching on fire.

Lubbock Fire Rescue was called to the scene to put out the fire.

Police reported that the victim who was stabbed was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is on-going.
