Rep. Arrington vows to work with Democrats on 'realistic' resolutions

LUBBOCK, Texas -

With Democrats in control of the House, it is clear Speaker Nancy Pelosi will have her hands full. The government is still partly shut down and Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington said it is up to the new House majority to compromise and work with the President.

He said it is clear the Democrats have a big government and socialist agenda. However, he said he is ready to fight to protect what he describes as free market, pro-growth policies.

"I think you're going to see more of this, more taxing, more spending, more government control over our lives," Arrington said.

Despite these fears, it is still important to Arrington to work on bi-partisan issues. This includes infrastructure, rural health, agriculture, and improving services for Veterans.

"I'm going to look for those ways to be productive, to have bi-partisan problem solving, every bit as much as I did when I was in majority in my first term," Arrington said.

When it comes to securing the border, Republicans and the President are standing their ground.

"The question is, when will the democrats be willing to compromise?" Arrington asked.

President Trump's request for roughly 5 billion dollars to physical barriers along the U.S., Mexico border is not being met. Arrington said the President's already come with a counter offer, willing to meet somewhere in the middle.

He urges the left to come to the table, but the congressman said his position is clear.

"I will reject out of hand any funding bill that does not include monies for the border wall and physical barriers as part of our border security strategy," Arrington said.

While it is not ideal in any scenario for the government to remain closed, Arrington said protecting the American people is a top priority and he is going to continue supporting the President.
