LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Fire Rescue graduated and pinned 13 firefighters.

Class 2018-1 went 10-8 into service Thursday night. The ceremony ended the first probationary year on the job. They're no longer rookies, they're actual hosemen.

"You really get to know each other on more than just a friends level, you know?" said Dexter Baker IV,  a member of this class of graduates. "You really do become family. You go through some trials and hardships unlike anything you've gone through with anybody else you can think of. So it really is more than just a friendship, and I think of all these guys as my family."

Baker's father has been a firefighter for 25 years. The new fireman says that's been his inspiration and part of his training.
