LUBBOCK, Texas -

A new housing development in East Lubbock is expanding.

Lubbock Habitat for Humanity dedicates a new home to Anna Rodriquez. Rodriguez is the second homeowner in the new Talkington Addition located in east Lubbock off North Guava.

"I just can't appreciate Habitat more than I can right now. You guys have really made a dream come true for me and my children," she said.

Christy Reeves, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Lubbock, believes this addition is an opportunity for economic development.

"We have the potential to put so many rooftops out here. It will really help the economic development of this whole area and of course bless so many individuals and families who want to own homes," she said.

Rodriquez not only assisted with the building of her home but volunteered on others as well.

"It is so remarkable to meet a person like Anna Rodriquez," Reeves said. "Her courage, her perseverance, her willingness to work and give her time to build her own home, in addition to building the homes of other habitat families."

In addition, as part of the Habitat program, the Rodriguez family was involved in all aspects of construction and Rodriguez attended numerous classes to prepare for home ownership.

"Owning on a home, you know, taking on a mortgage, that's a big step for anybody," Rodriquez said.

The project took about a year to complete.

"To see it all come together is such a blessing and just a testament of what the Lubbock community and people can do when they come together," Reeves said.

Moving services were donated by the Hart Moving Company allowing the Rodriquez family to swiftly move in.

"It's so exciting working towards it. You can see it happening right before your eyes. You just can't wait for it to happen," Rodriquez said. "Then you're also scared because it's so new and it's going to be a lot of unexpected. But i can't wait to figure it all out."

The Rodriquez family now begins to move into their new home and prepare to welcome more neighbors into the area.
