GAINESVILLE, FLA. – The Texas Tech Women's Basketball dropped a heartbreaker to Florida, 72-67, during the SEC/Big 12 Challenge matchup on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Raiders move to 5-2 on the season.
With 25 seconds left in the first quarter, senior Zuri Sanders hit a layup to push the Lady Raiders ahead, 13-11. Florida responded in the second taking a 24-19 lead with two minutes to go. Junior Eryka Sidney hit a layup just before junior Brittany Brewer drained a three-pointer to tie it up, 24-24, at the half.
The Lady Raiders and the Gators went point-for-point in the third quarter until Florida's Funda Nakkasoglu made a jumpshot at the buzzer to give Florida a 47-46 lead.
Florida opened the final frame with a 10-2 run before freshman Chrislyn Carr scored five points off free throws and a layup to pull within two. The Gators closed out the game with made free throws.
Lady Raiders fall to 5-2 on the season.
Three Lady Raiders scored in double figures today against the Gators. Texas Tech has had 3+ players in double figures in all seven games played this season.
The Lady Raiders have scored 20+ points in 16 of the 28 quarters played this season.
Junior forward Brittany Brewer scored 28 and recorded 13 rebounds for her fifth double double of the season and eighth of her career.
There were eight lead changes and seven tied scores.
The Lady Raiders have a 13-day break for finals before hitting the road on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tech is set to face Nevada at 3 p.m. CT in Reno, Nev.
