LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lady Raider Basketball team improved to 5-1 for the first time since the 2015-16 season with a 77-69 win over Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday night.
After a tough first quarter, the Lady Raiders turned on the jets to score 25 in the second quarter while holding SFA to just 13. Sophomore Sydney Goodson led the spark as she went 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from the perimeter to score 10 points in the quarter. Tech strung together two big runs to extend its lead to 13 heading into the half.
The Ladyjacks tried to battle back, scoring 20 in both of the second half frames. SFA cut Tech's lead down to three, but freshman Chrislyn Carr made a clutch floater with 14 seconds left on the clock. Erin DeGrate and Sydney Goodson sunk three free throws in the final seconds of the game to seal the win.
Carr led the team with a career high 23 points, three assists and three rebounds in tonight's game. She recorded a career best nine field goals and four three-pointers. Eryka Sidney tallied a career high 13 points and eight rebounds in 35 minutes of action.
DeGrate recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first double double of the season and second of her career.
The Lady Raiders travel to Florida on Sunday, Dec. 2, for the first road test of the season. The game is part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
