Lubbock Chamber celebrates small business owners, promotes Small Business Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce encourages to shop local on Small Business Saturday. Chamber members lauding the these businesses for their impact on the economy.

Mayor Pope said don't just go to a big box retailer and wait in line. He encourages you to find a corner store, food truck and mom and pop store to support.

"They're the ones that are part of the United Way campaign, they're the ones that support their churches, they're the ones that write checks when the cheerleaders come in from Lubbock High, or the swim team comes in, or the pom squad from Coronado, they're gonna write a check and put one of their signs up in the window and that's how they are, we count on people for that," he said.

More than half of Americans own or work for a small business, more than 70 percent of Lubbock businesses are locally-owned and 10 percent of those have fewer than 10 employees.
